This is not an easy post. With immense sadness in my heart, I must announce the incomparable Mark Taber has made the decision to leave the Heidi Nirk Band. Mark has been a staple and driving force in HNB for two years and has been an influential figure and confidant to myself and the rest of the boys. Unfortunately, Mark has been having issues with his hearing for some time and the sheer loudness of our band has been difficult on him. I know this was not an easy decision for Mark to make because of our mutual respect and admiration for one another, but sometimes we have to make adult decisions and it is about time Mark starts adulting lol. Mark will always be one of my most favorite humans on this Earth (as he is for countless others that he has touched with his talent, humor, and spirit) and there is nothing more important to me than his health and happiness. From the bottom of my heart, I will miss seeing his glorious face and hearing his enchanting piano with HNB (I have to admit I am choking up a little here)... he makes me laugh like none other, he makes me smile all the time... and I am a better human for knowing him. My dear Mr. T, I will miss you bringing the boogie each and every night and I wish you love, happiness, and health. May the Goddesses bestow you with many more years of bringing joy to every heart you meet. We love you and you will be sincerely missed (but I know where you live)! Please help us wish Mark well in his next endeavors wherever that may be. It's been a helluva ride! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the honor of sharing the stage with you and for being one of my dearest friends. I am truly grateful.
Someone asked me the other day “where have you been”? Hmmmm. Good question. What she meant was that suddenly, Heidi Nirk appeared like a flash of light out of nowhere. I had to laugh. It wasn’t, really, out of nowhere, I have been around before. There was no spontaneous manifestation it has just been a long time coming. What took me so long you might ask? Well, I was taking my time searching for a sound. My musician friends can relate to that statement I am sure. I was looking for something magical, so much so that I had my doubts about ever finding it truly. It took a lot of moving around, testing things out, new members would come, and they would leave. Then, one day… serendipitously the perfect combination appeared in the practice space… and something miraculous was born. The addition of illustrious legendary players such as Mark Taber (Tombstone Blues Band), Paul Tomasello (Roomful of Blues), and Rob Nelsen (he is EVERYWHERE… Loaded Dice, Robcats, etc.) alongside Jack Matthews (Stoval Brown, and countless others), and Rhode Island’s best kept secret, harmonica player, Richard “Lil’ Cousin” Calitri, the band is POWERFUL! Now add my unique sound to the band and we are a POWERHOUSE! All you got to do is come see us live… and you will feel the power too!
